US Armed Forces Executes Deadly Strike in Pacific, Leading to Four Fatalities

As stated by a senior military official, the US military executed a fatal strike on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four people.

“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a craft operated by a terrorist group in open sea. Intelligence verified the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. All four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”

Context and Recent Strikes

This announcement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, vowing to increase the military presence.

Just on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Actions Amidst Scrutiny

The administration has faced increasing demands to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the limits of lawful warfare.

Although the administration has stated the campaign is about halting drugs destined for the US, remarks from a top official appeared to suggest a broader geopolitical aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff said the president “aims to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be linked to a strategy to oust Venezuela's sitting government.
