The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
