Soccer Expert Sutton Takes On Singer Murs in Top Flight Predictions

Arsenal's 10-game winning run was ended by Sunderland before the international break, but can the English top division leaders bounce back against local foes Spurs this weekend?

"{I believe like Arsenal are light years ahead of Tottenham at the moment but Spurs boss Thomas Frank will have a plan for this game," remarked football specialist Chris Sutton.

"The Spurs manager will attempt to neutralize Arsenal, who have not always been at their scintillating finest this campaign - but Mikel Arteta's side typically still find a way to win."

Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League games this season, against artificial intelligence, readers and a range of guests.

For week 12, he faces singer Olly Murs, who is a Manchester United fan.

The singer's latest album, the new release, is out on Friday.

Football and Parenting Experiences

Olly is a talented soccer player as well as a successful artist and has been a star of several Soccer Aid matches over time - but he is not intending a serious return as a player.

"{I recently played in a charity match the other evening for a mate of mine," he said. "The side was trailing 3-1 when I was substituted in the second half, and they proceeded to win 4-3, so you can read into that what you want!

"I continue to love football, but I hurt my knee a few years ago and it still hasn't fully recovered. I hope I could play more but the uncertainty of the game means it's too risky for me in my profession to do it seriously again.

"Plus I am forty-one now, and we are not everyone is Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very content not playing football and I am gearing up for the moment that my daughter or son decides to play instead."

The singer and his wife Amelia Tank have a young family, Madison and their son, and he is ready to follow in his father's footsteps by becoming their manager.

"I won't push football on our kids but I've already told Amelia that if they do get the bug for it then I will have to go and get my coaching badges - and I will likely be coaching their weekend football side," he added.

"I watched my nephews play a lot, and I truly got into it, and I clearly owned a soccer team for a period too.

"My father did it with us when I was a kid, which is probably where I get it from. He managed our team for two or three seasons and had great fun with it. That might be the next step for me as well, and I am looking forward to it!"

Premier League Forecasts

Saturday, 22 November

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

Chelsea might have to be patient for their star's return from fitness issues but their offense is already more potent with Pedro and Delap both back fit.

In my opinion this fixture will be quite tight, though. Burnley are well organised and their only home losses so far have been against Liverpool and the Gunners.

It smells of a one-all draw to me, but I am in fact going to choose Chelsea to win narrowly for what would be their third Premier League win in a row.

Sutton's forecast: 1-2

The singer's pick: Chelsea will be superior. 1-3

AI's outlook: 0-2

The Cherries have been defeated in their previous couple matches - although both of them were on the road - but they got thoroughly beaten by Villa last time out which shocked me.

On the other hand, West Ham secured back-to-back victories before the hiatus and, although both of those games were at home, they do look strong again.

The Hammers' sole on the road victory this season came at Nottingham Forest in August, when West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo was still that team's coach.

Therefore, what exactly do I go with here - will it be West Ham continuing their run under their manager, or the home side bouncing back?

I will choose the Cherries, because I believe what occurred against Aston Villa was a blip.

Sutton's forecast: 2-0

The guest's prediction: Bournemouth are doing well but the visitors have improved under their boss. 2-2

The Bees were seen as one of the favourites for the drop before the campaign started, but they have impressed a few people under their manager and are in good form with three wins in their past four games.

My son advised me to get Bees striker Igor Thiago in my Fantasy Football team a few weeks back and, guess what, I ignored the advice.

The forward will likely find the net again on Saturday but I am nonetheless not going to pick him or back Brentford at Brighton's ground.

They have not had much fortune on the road this season, and Brighton are always decent at their stadium. Brentford will try to attack on the counter-attack but I feel Fabian Hurzeler's team pose much more of a danger.

Sutton's prediction: 2-1

Olly's view: This could be a match where you think there is going to be a many scores but it actually turns out to be quite close. 1-1

AI's prediction: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

It is a massive fixture for Fulham, who have suffered defeat in five of their last six matches.

Fulham have got lots of quality in their squad but it nonetheless seems like they could be sucked into a drop zone battle.

Regarding Sunderland, indeed they are the surprise package of the top flight campaign so far.

The away side's performance in the two-all draw with the Gunners last time out was excellent. We have not witnessed anyone else disrupt the North London side like that this term, and Sunderland were fully competitive for them.

The sensible thing would be to support the Black Cats here, because they are clearly capable of disrupting Fulham up too and, the previous occasion they were in west London, they beat the Blues at the end of last month.

But I am not going to do that. Rather, I really need to carry on going against the away team with my predictions. I am claiming a lot of responsibility for their positive outcomes because they clearly love to defy my predictions.

Looking at Fulham's at Craven Cottage form, the sole side they have been defeated by is Arsenal. Marco Silva's team will be extremely eager for a positive result, so I am going to predict they will secure three points.

Sutton's prediction: 1-0

Olly's prediction: I know Sunderland are performing strongly and also that the hosts are on a bad run... but they have nonetheless been decent at home this campaign. 2-0

AI's outlook: 2-0

It is a hard one to predict. The Reds have lost seven of their last ten games in every tournament, but could they be one of the teams who profit from the {international break|
