Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Fitness Worries.

'Serious blow' for the touring side as Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

The pace bowler further complicated the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the field early on day two of the Boxing Day Test against Australia.

The pace bowler pulled up with his hamstring after the final ball that he bowled on Saturday.

The England team indicated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time off the field in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The series decider of the tour beginning on 4 January gets underway on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has been without strike bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer to a side strain on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was called up as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, only to be brought back for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps with the ball, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman as one of just three England players to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he came back the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, towards the conclusion of that over, he bowled a variation to the batsman and promptly felt at his leg.

The English bowler returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test following his omission of the third.
