Ex- Physician Charged with Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Patients
Prosecutors have stated that a ex- physician stands accused of committing assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were patients.
Details of the Grave Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of dozens of acts of sexual assault – including some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.
A deputy chief CPS official commented, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
The charges come after what police described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer will appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
Breakdown of Offences
The charging documents said the forty-five charges include:
- Fifteen counts of assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
