Democrats Criticize Trump After He Claims They Should Face Death Penalty

Lawmakers from the Democratic party voiced fury after the ex-president accused a group of Democratic congress members of being "turncoats" and asserted they should be arrested and sentenced "through capital punishment" following their publication of a disputed video.

The Content That Triggered the Dispute

The video footage, published on Tuesday, features six Democratic congress members who in the past acted in defense or defense positions.

"As we did, you all made an oath to defend and defend this national charter," the officials declared in the short video. "At present, the threats to our democratic foundation are not only from overseas, but from within our own country. Our regulations are clear, you can refuse unlawful commands, you can reject illegal orders, you should refuse improper directives. No one has to carry out commands that violate the law or our founding principles."

The Former President's Angry Reaction

The clip seemed to prompt a heated reply from the ex-president.

On the following morning, Trump published on his preferred platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate publication, he wrote: "This is really bad, and Risky to our United States. Their comments cannot be permitted to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional post, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also reposted a statement that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Leaders Respond

Following Trump's statements on Thursday, Democratic leadership issued a unified declaration censuring the comments.

"Violent politics has no role in America," they declared. "Congress members who were featured in the video all worked our country with exceptional national pride and excellence. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's offensive and risky death threats against members of Congress, and call on GOP representatives to vigorously do the same."

The opposition officials also mentioned that they had been in contact with security officials "to guarantee the protection of these representatives and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must right away remove these unhinged digital publications and retract his aggressive language before he gets someone killed," the declaration added.

Officials' Strong Answer

The lawmakers who appeared in the video also published a statement.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and defense specialists who love this United States and swore an pledge to protect and uphold the national charter of the United States," they declared. "This commitment lasts a lifetime, and we intend to honor it. No warning, intimidation, or incitement will stop us from that important responsibility."

"The significant point is that the former president deems it subject to penalty by death for us to reiterate the statutes," they added. "Military personnel should know that we have their backs as they execute their vow to the founding principles and duty to obey only legal commands. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our obligation."

They stated: "All citizens must unite and censure the president's requests for our death and partisan aggression. This is a period for principled stance."

More Governmental Comments

The Democratic Senate minority leader also denounced Trump's remarks and published on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the former president is requesting the execution of government members."

He stated: "This constitutes an clear THREAT. Each congressional member, each house member, every American – regardless of party – should denounce this right away and unconditionally."

The Conservative official justified Trump's assertion that the Democrats had participated in "treason", labeling the video as "extremely improper", stating: "This represents very risky, you have prominent officials of the legislature instructing soldiers to defy commands, I think that is historic in American history."

The Republican leader also according to sources informed the press that in what he examined of Trump's messages, Trump was "describing the violation of rebellion" but that "legal experts have to parse the terminology and decide all that."

Executive Branch Reaction

During a White House press conference on Thursday afternoon, when inquired by a journalist, "Is the president want to execute congressional representatives?", the executive branch representative replied: "No."

"Let's be clear about what the ex-commander in chief is addressing," the representative declared. "There are active officials of the US Congress who worked together to organize a video message to members of the US military, to current military personnel advising them to defy the commander in chief's legal commands."

She said: "The purity of our military depends on the command structure, and if that structure is compromised, it can cause fatalities, it can cause confusion, and that's what these members of Congress ... are fundamentally encouraging."
