Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from the top,” Slot stated.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Response
The manager lamented known weaknesses from his team in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with performances like these.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to the top, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
