A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
